This free workshop will introduce participants to practices that will help them embed the inclusion of diverse cultures in their work.
Elma Glasgow is an award-winning consultant for inclusive communications, engagement and storytelling. She will lead the session, introducing the topic and working with the group to create a plan to overcome challenges in creative practice, either using their own experience in the activities, or drawing from practices they’ve seen in the sector.

Peter Marigold is a designer and maker working across various mediums and materials. His approaches to making can range from incorporating the hazard and chance of assembling found materials to produce aesthetic effect, to designing FORMcard™ - a mouldable plastic card that you can keep in your wallet for quick and simple repairs. A deep understanding of materials and their potentials can result in an economy of production or manipulation that presents simple and natural results, as in Cleft - a series of furniture pieces that use split wood as the finished surface, embracing the chance qualities of natural materials.
Peter studied Sculpture at Central Saint Martins and completed an MA in Product Design at the Royal College of Art where he studied under Ron Arad. His studio focuses on product and furniture design and he exhibits across the UK and internationally and has work in the collections of numerous major Museums and Galleries.
Following Peter's talk, he will be hosting a FORMcard™ thumb casting workshop at 2pm, demonstrating how to use a simple mouldable plastic to create repairs or for small sculptural tasks.
Peter Marigold is the designer of FORMcard™ - a plastic that can be heated in hot water to a mouldable state to create simple repairs or be used for small sculpting tasks. It has been designed in a card form so it can be easily carried around in a wallet.
Peter will host a workshop introducing us to the material so we can explore its properties and create small forms with it.

As part of the Arts Council-funded project "Lifting the Horizon," originalprojects; is organizing a series of research trips to explore exhibitions, organisations, and events across the UK. Following our visits to London, Liverpool Biennial, and the South East Coast, our next destination is Glasgow International.
During this trip, we will visit notable places such as MIMA (Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art), Apollo Pavilion, Glasgow International, and The Revelator. Travel will be by minibus for 17 people over 5 days, with accommodations provided for one night in Middlesborough and three nights in Glasgow. Entry tickets and payments for artists' studio visits or tours are included.
This opportunity is available to current and former studio holders, with priority given to current holders and first-time attendees. Participants will share their experiences in a post-trip studio meeting, fostering community learning and engagement.

Wanna meet me halfway? is a project instigated by Kate Genever as an invitation formed around a collection of 18 double-sided prints (artworks made with different communities) and 8 texts by writers.
The boxed set is used to catalyse an action within a self-selecting community of people, who having the same starting points create unique exhibitions in their homes or elsewhere. Like a television or theatre script, it will come to life through your interaction with it. I trust that your ideas and exhibitions will make it different and complete.
A series of writers and Kate collaborated to select the work featured. The images are of pieces made within different communities since 2007. Sometimes the writers' words came first and other times it was Kate's images.

REBEL stands for "Recognition of Experience-Based Education and Learning".
The toolkit is a competencies and capabilities system that supports planning, reflection and the evaluation of learning gain. It can be used in relation to an individual’s lived experiences as well as their engagement with activism, projects and tasks outside of formal education.
The introductory workshop is a hands-on exploration of the system and a first look at how it might be applied in collective settings or as an assist to individual reflection.
The toolkit is available in print and is accessible online (www.rebel-tool.org). The workshop is primarily designed to demonstrate one method of interactive learning reflection and to initiate thinking around the potential of the toolkit applied to your own contexts.

Following two visits to London, our third trip will be to the Liverpool Biennial, including studio visits and a stop at "Economics the Blockbuster" at The Whitworth in Manchester.
We will depart from Great Yarmouth at 9:30am on Thursday, 31st August, and return on the evening of Sunday, 3rd September. All travel and accommodation will be covered, along with a contribution towards subsistence (up to £90 per person).
These visits are open to both current and former studio holders. If the trip is oversubscribed, priority will be given to current studio holders and first-time attendees, followed by a selection based on responses to the application questions.

Lawrence Leaman is an artist and co-founder of Piper Keys. Piper Keys was an artist-run, non-profit gallery based in London from 2013 to 2021. Thirty solo exhibitions, nine events and one group show were realised in DIY spaces in Whitechapel and Greenwich, then at Raven Row's building. The programme was supported by public funding from Arts Council England. Leaman’s recent work includes the self-organised teller.org.uk/towcesterroad and the exhibition Broadcasting at Hotel Michele in Margate. His forthcoming exhibition at Charity in Glasgow will open later this year. He is an Associate Lecturer at Camberwell College of the Arts.
Alex Sainsbury runs Raven Row. Raven Row is an arts charity in Spitalfields, London, located within 18th century rooms and contemporary galleries. Between 2009 and 2018 Raven Row made around 40 exhibitions, often of art from recent UK history and by an older generation of artists, also of film and archives, and occasionally of work by mid-career and emerging artists. Between 2018 and 2021, it hosted a residency programme for activist cultural and community groups. Its exhibition programme recommenced in January 2023. Raven Row is programmed and funded by Alex. Exhibitions are often made with specialist curators in dialogue with Raven Row.

Jason Evans and Tamu Nkiwane will share their approaches to art making, discussing their inspirations and techniques which encompass photography, curation, film-making and sound production.
Jason Evans grew up in Great Yarmouth, and began to attain notoriety thanks to his highly innovative and radical series of photographs titled 'Strictly' which was published by i-D magazine in 1991 (which is part of the Tate's collection). See also the Daily Nice.
Jason has gone on to be included in and curate numerous exhibitions, produce artwork and take portraits for various musicians and celebrities including Four Tet, Grayson Perry, Radiohead, Ronaldo and more. He has recently undertaken various projects with community groups including the Garden Gate Project in Margate. He has also worked with residents from Herring House to collaboratively form C L A Y H E M - a group who created a musical performance using a collection of studio pottery for YARMONICS. Tamu Nkiwane uses punk approaches to explore heritage and identity through various media, including film-making, sculpture, activism, music and more.
His short moving image work 'Apocrypha', "a conversation about heritage and spiritualism with a Sangoma (South African spiritualist) who lives and works in a barber shop in Walthamstow" was featured in the BBC's New Creatives series. See it here.
This workshop paves the way for a National Creative Summit in Great Yarmouth in 2024.
