About the day
originalprojects; invites you to walk with us—through spaces of local heritage, creativity, and resistance—and take part in a live inquiry.
This day invites participants to explore Great Yarmouth as a living curriculum. Through artist-led walks, conversations, and encounters with the town’s people and our creative partners, participants will engage with a series of site-specific activities and interventions that reflect the town’s layered histories and coastal character. The programme includes opportunities for discussion, reflection, and performance — all grounded in place — as we consider how creative practices rooted in local context can support climate awareness, knowledge-sharing, and community resilience.

What to Bring & Accessibility
What to Bring & Accessibility
This encounter builds on our current research project: the Great Yarmouth Exploded Art School (GYEAS) — a 12-month research and development initiative supported by Freelands Foundation.
We’re testing how a coastal town like Great Yarmouth—with its histories of industry, leisure, and cultural production—might function as a distributed, artist-led learning campus, where creative learning emerges from lived experience, local knowledge, and seasonal rhythms.
Great Yarmouth is a place shaped by its edges—geographically, culturally, and economically. It offers a frontline perspective on the urgent realities of climate change: erosion, rising seas, disappearing seasons, and shifting economies. These aren’t abstract concerns—they’re lived.
By working with the town’s cyclical rhythm of tourism, labour, and weather, we apply a permaculture-inspired methodology to develop GYEAS: a new model of artist-led education rooted in place and driven by collective knowledge.
